Ian Nielsen-Jones is an economist by training having earned a Masters degree from McMaster University in Hamilton. For the last 20 years of his career, he has held executive-level positions with consumer product, technology and communications companies, international consulting groups, and federal and provincial governments. He began his career with the Competition Bureau where he rose to the second highest position, Deputy Director of Investigation and Research (now Deputy Commissioner of Competition). He then became President of the Ontario Lottery Corporation, the fifth largest lottery organization in North America with annual sales of $2 billion. During his tenure, the Corporation won numerous advertising, merchandising, communications and human resources awards. He was subsequently recruited by The Rank Organisation, a top 50 British company, to spearhead its investment foray into the North American market. He has also served as the Chief Operating Officer for a communications company in Irvine, California and as the CEO for two international consulting firms that provided assessments to governments and companies with regard to the implementation or improvement of business operations and government programs. He is currently back with the Bureau where he is responsible for its Toronto and Hamilton offices, which investigate conspiracy, bid-rigging and mass marketing fraud activity. He is also responsible for making presentations to public and private organizations regarding the Bureau and its enforcement activities under the Competition Act. He has taught competition law at Queen's University, been a guest lecturer at three other universities and had numerous articles and speeches published.
